  Sued me for some bogus debt and claimed I was served by leaving a summons on the door of a house I hadn't lived in for twenty five years. She got a default judgement against me and sat on it for ten years for some unknown reason. Then suddenly I start getting letters and phone calls and the agency I work for was contacted to verify employment, presumably to garnish wages. The agent from US Equities (Linda Strumpf's debt buying company)was rude and angry, raising his voice when I demanded to know how they knew this was my debt and to prove that they owned it. I requested that proof in writing which I never got. They failed to disclose that they had already won a default judgement against me during any phone call or in any letter. I only found that out when I heard from my boss that they had a letter with court information enclosed. I called the courts myself and had to wait two days because the files were so old they were stored in the basement in boxes and were before the days of computers! Thank Goodness the secretary was a nice person because this was 450 miles from where I currently live and I was afraid I would have to go there to clear this up. I hired a lawyer and Linda dropped her case immediately. She could not prove she owned the debt, or that this debt even belonged to me, and had no information from the loaning bank who was taken over by another bank over the years. It was all bogus. If this agency reaches out to you believe me you, they bought the debt for pennies on the dollar from someone who couldn't prove you owe it and neither can they. U.S Equities gets their money by harassing and threatening and gaining default judgments against people who were never served so they couldn't show up in court to defend themselves. Know your rights and ask for proof and check with your local courts (all previous addresses) to see if there is a judgement filed against you. If you need one get a lawyer and pay them instead of her. I was happy to hand my money to my lawyer rather than giving her a dime.
